Beautiful Opals
- Australia's National Gem, Special 2000 Commemorative Edition is a colourful
pictorial guide to Australian opals and their history, from their initial
discovery to their recognition as a world class gem. Len Cram's text provides
a guide to the areas in Australia where the opal industry has flourished,
from Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs in New South Wales to Andamooka,
Coober Pedy, Mintabie and Lambina in South Australia, not forgetting the
boulder opal fields of Queensland. The book explains three varieties of
opal, Boulder, Black and Light, and provides anecdotes of some of the
characters that form part of the history of opal mining in Australia.
